Indian Members’ Council Meeting : April 30, 2019

The Indian Members’ Council meeting of SICI was held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. SICI relies on the active support of its member institutions who give adequate time and energy to the duties of being the SICI member by uphold Institute’s values and objectives. Members of Council take an active role in identifying and supporting key focus areas affecting various programmes and its agendas, through input at the meetings and their participation. Besides presenting reports and roadmap for the year ahead, one vital role of members is the election of the Institute’s Vice-President/ President- Elect, and Executive Council Member at Large. SICI’s Executive Council elected Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas, Director, NIT Trichy and Prof. Poonam Saxena, VC, National Law University Jodhpur for the aforementioned positions respectively.

Book Launch & Poetry Reading - 16th April, 2019

On the afternoon of 16th April, 2019, 91��Ƭ�� (SICI) hosted the launch of a book titled ‘Country Drive’ co-authored by the Indian poet & critic Ms. Sukrita Paul Kumar and the Canadian poet & novelist Ms. Yasmin Ladha. The book was co-launched by Ms. Darshana. M. Dabral, Joint Scretary & Finance Advisor, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India, Mr. Matt Friesen, Counsellor, High Commission of Canada, and Prof. Faizan Mustafa, President, SICI at IIC, New Delhi. Amongst the highlights of the event was duo poet’s reading of the poetry content from their book to an enthusiastic and illustrious crowd of 50 plus attendees followed by a Q&A moderated by Ms. Anandana Kapur. In her keynote address, Ms. Dabral congratulated SICI for completing 50 years as an organization and praised its efforts to make Indian-Canadian literary & scholarly collaboration a huge success. In her closing remarks, Ms. Prachi Kaul, Director, SICI, thanked everyone for supporting SICI’s initiatives aimed at increasing academic and cultural cooperation between India and Canada.
